Ebook Writing

So writing Ebook is very time consuming. Be warn you'll question why your doing this like hundreds of time. For me I admire mystery writers like Rex Stout-Nero Wolfe, Conan Doyle-Sherlock Holmes and also urban fantasy like Eoin Coifer-Artemis Fowl. Therefore I wanted try writing one instead of only reading it.

I spent around six hours a day to finish my first book "Forester's Manny-Murder with no Body." Its already posted on pubit (barnesandnoble) and Amazon Kindle. Now let me explain how I did it.

First I basically just made a rough outline on a piece of paper. Consider how I want to set up the story. Should I go for a one time ending or go for a series. After filling out small details on what each chapters will the readers I decided just for a series.

Next I opened up a "Openoffice" program (or you can use Microsoft word). Typed up each chapter without stopping to edit. Never stop. I find that when you pause to reread time just fly by and you end up making it worst. When I ended up finishing the whole thing, I went back reread to make sure the story had a flow and deleted unnecessary parts.
DO NOT FORGET TO CREATE A TABLE OF CONTENTs FOR YOUR CHAPTERS. It look more professional when you do.
Check out this link:
Create Table of Contents

SAVE your file as .doc, .txt, or .html because this is the only type of file Amazon and Barnes and Noble (pubit) recognize to convert it to epub.

Now all you have to do is create a cover. If you have photoshop set the image size as 702x 1003 pixel. Then create a image you think best suit your story. Put a title and don't forget your name. Save it as jpeg.

Your all set. Go upload your cover and writing on:

pubit.com
or
Amazon
and register. There is NO charge. Set a price for your ebook and your done. If you have any other questions comment below.

How to be Like Sherlock Holmes

How to be Like Sherlock Holmes

Have you ever wondered how you can be like the fictional character like Sherlock Holmes? Look at a stranger, friend, or family and know where they were, what they did, and what secret their hiding. These are instructional tips and do not constitute a proven method.

The character Sherlock Holmes is the fictional character of Arthur Conan Doyle. Conan Doyle states that his creation was inspired by Doctor Joseph Bell. This is important because all doctors who studied in school learned to conduct their investigation to phenomenal based on the scientific method. The scientific method is conducted first with observation, second-collection of data, third-formulating a hypothesis, and finally testing out the hypothesis to see if it is correct.
The scientific method is exactly what Sherlock Holmes utilizes. He observes the stranger. Collect data base on the stranger’s clothing, physical state, actions, and etc. After that he formulates a hypothesis on who exactly the person might be and what he/she wants. The part of formulating hypothesis is base on Sherlock Holmes considerable knowledge. For example, Sherlock Holmes knows where one has been in England by the type of mud on their shoe. Also in “The Hound of the Baservilles” Sherlock Holmes knows that the letters C.C.H on the stick stands for Charing Cross Hospital.  Finally Holmes test out his hypothesis by stating them as fact and see if the stranger agrees or disagree with his conclusions. Although Sherlock Holmes method is more of an inference than sound conclusions nevertheless it is base on what is observable.
So how to be like Sherlock Holmes:
  1. Use the Scientific Methods.
A)    Observation: Do NOT stop observing the person when you come to an obvious conclusion. It is not the validity of your inference that is important, but the amount of observation you have.

EXAMPLE: You arrive just in time to meet a friend of yours who you have not seen for a long time.  You observe that her hair is a mess, so she must have come in a hurry. After further observation you see that her makeup is flawless and her clothes are neat. Her hair must be some sort of style. So your first conclusion is wrong to assume that she came in a hurry.

B)   Collect Data: Remember what you have seen. Many times in Sherlock Holmes’s adventure Holmes told Watson how he does not truly observe the things he sees because Watson fails to remember the fine details of what he sees (i.e. The number of steps on an staircase). So how do you remember everything you see? Well you can’t, unless you have eidetic memory. You have to remember the details where you know you can get the most truthful data.

HINTS: When you meet someone for the first time, causally look from down and up. Looking at the area from bottom- like the shoes is the best place to indicate status (the material of the shoes, brand, etc), the amount traveled (wears, mud stain, etc), and find out if the person is fashionable (style, color-does it match the outfit?) because the shoes is the LEAST control area. The face and hair will tell you the least about the person because that is the first thing a person will touch up and manipulate in the morning.

C) Hypothesize : Use the facts that you have to suit your hypnotize and not the other way around. Also base your hypothesize on your context.

EXAMPLE: If you meet a stranger who wears a military outfit, stands like a military man, and orders people around like a military man, he must be in the military. The simplest inference is usually the correct one. However, also consider your context. If it’s Halloween, the man might just be dressing up like a military personnel.

D) Test out Hypothesize: Create a control experiment. Or you can always ask if your conclusion is correct.

EXAMPLE: If you suspect someone is borrowing your clothes without permission, announce to the suspect that you’re going out. Then as you pretend to leave you hide in your room to catch the suspect red handed.
  1. Read – The more Knowledge you have the better the inference. However, this does not mean you should read everything you see. Consider what is important and imagine how you can use the things you have learned.
A)    Read Newspapers –find out the weather, the politics, etc.
B)    Read factual books –Biology, basic chemistry, psychology – body language, and etc.
C)    Learn some common statistics –Most common names, median wage in your area, education level, most common jobs, etc.
D)    Look through magazines –Fashion, makeup, latest food crazes, etc.

How to be like Nero Wolfe

How would you like to be Nero Wolfe.

Speak well and converse, think things through, and come to an sound conclusion. On this topic Cleaning Up Your Desktop I Found My Mind And So They Laughed.....Again! How to Blog Your Way to Financial Freedom as a College Student How to Use the Mind to Grow Rich 1) Speak Well. A) Think before you speak. The person you are speaking to dictate the volume and the tone of your speech. However, volume does not mean shouting. You can increase your voice without the need to yell. Example: On many occasion Nero Wolfe uses his baritone voice to rumble vocally to people when they are unreasonable. But there are times when he too see that volume alone has no place when an girl like Anna Fiore in “Fer De Lance” refuse to name the culprit. A timid girl with stubborn attitude like her required him to be soft tone and concise.

B) People’s self interest always lead them. So show them the path. AND THIS IS IMPORTANT YOU MUST LEAD THEM INDIRECTLY. NEVER DIRECTLY.

Example: Anna Fiore in “Fer De Lance” must have a reason why she refuse to name the culprit. Nero Wolfe saw that reason was her self interest in keeping the money the killer has given to her in return for her silence. So Nero Wolfe contrive the idea that he would replace that money if Anna threw the Killer’s money away into the fire. That way her obligation to the killer would be nulled and void. But Anna did not take his offer. Why do something someone told her to do when she already had the money in her hand.
Nero Wolfe then thought of another plan. Force her to take the offer by indirectly and placate her interest. So he stagged an robbery and rid her of the Killer’s money. Anna who is at an lost comes to Wolfe and accept his previous offer for the money.

C) Never be afraid to think something through. Go over the facts.

Example. In “Disguise for Murder” Nero Wolfe invited guest to see his orchids. An short party, when an woman is found murdered in Wolfe’s office after Archie Goodwin (Wolfe’s assistant) left her to find Nero Wolfe. Wolfe listen to Archie tell him that the woman was frantic about an man she had seen in Nero Wolfe’s party and had only recognized him because of his hat. No one except Wolfe realized the importance of that statement; “The man wore an hat so she knew who he was.”
In the 1960s men wore dashing hats to go with their suits. And it was customary to take off your hat when you enter someone’s home. And because no male guest in the party had an hat on, the only perpetrators possible was the female guest who had on bonnets or some sort of cap on their heads. So Nero Wolfe was able to narrow down who the Killer to be.

D) Become the Subject. Make Reasonable Assumptions and be ready to correct them when ideas are proven faulty.

Example. Nero Wolfe always try to become the subject. How an person will think and act. Not in the sense of being Godly, but under circumstances Wolfe creates or plans. In “The Doorbell Rang” Wolfe hires actors to become him and his assistant Archie Goodwin without the FBI who is watching his home becoming wiser to this fact. He needed the actors to become them because he wanted the FBI to do something illegal so that he had an hold over them. To do this Wolfe made sure the FBI heard that he had something on them to tie to murder. The proof lying in his safe, he had the FBI watch his and Archie’s double leave his home and wait until the FBI agents break into his home and pounce on them to reveal their illegal activities.
Nero Wolfe knew with the FBI’s resources and that they would be listening and watching him. So he used these to his advantage. Knew very well that if he was the FBI, Wolfe too would find breaking in someone’s home no less illegal than ease dropping on innocent civilians.

Another EXAMPLE: This one is personal. I actually made assumptions on a stranger I met.
There was an man in his 50s with white hair, Asian, and an baby strap to his shoulder. I try to think how that baby related to him. The man was too old to be the baby’s father. And typically Asian male tend to have babies early on and not in their later years. So I assumed that he was the baby’s grandfather. And then I saw that there was no one beside him there. No mother or father of the baby around. So I thought more into precisely how that baby related to him.
1) Was the baby’s father, the grandfather’s son
2) Was the baby’s mother the grandfather’s daughter.
3) Or even maybe an distant relative.
But I managed to narrow it down. I try to place myself in the mother’s shoe. If I had an father in law would I allow him to watch my child alone without me being with the baby? Yes, but not likely. I would in fact be more comfortable if I or my husband was with the father-in law in case my baby was needed something. So I was emotionally more comfortable leaving my child with someone if they were more related to me. And then it became clear to me. The grandfather was actually the mother’s father. Choice number 2. That way I (the mother) would feel better leaving my child because who best to take care of my baby than the man who raised me. And in the end when I confronted the stranger about the child, I was completely right.
I know this is not the whole case for every situation with an elderly man with an baby strap to him. But I am showing you this because many people are afraid to make assumption. The phrase “Never assume because it makes an ASS out of U N Me” come to mind. But to be a good detective like Nero Wolfe, assumption must be made. Without it, we would get no where. The only difference is to always be reasonable and never base your assumption as facts. Only an thought to shed further light into an matter.
